Grand
Canary Island boasts incredible
natural richness, in particular its numerous,
mostly white sand beaches,
some of which are unique in the world. Nearly
60 of the 236 kilometres of coastline of Grand
Canary Island are occupied by beaches of various
types, from the impressive beach of Maspalomas,
with its 250 hectares of dunes
along the sea, to the remote and
untouched Güigüi, and the lively capital beach,
Las Canteras.
The moderate
climate and the agreeable temperature
of the water (between 18 degrees
in the winter months and 22 the rest of the year)
make the beaches enjoyable in any season.
The beaches
of Grand Canary Island are known for the clarity
of their water , their cleanliness and
facilities. Of the 150 beaches
and bays catalogued by the Island Ministry
of the Environment, approximately 50 have facilities.
The rest, without losing their beauty, and with their untouched , enchantment, have more or less rugged access and lack infrastructure. The island also a small minority of beaches that are not recommended for bathing due to exposure to strong currents. Among all these beaches are included approximately thirty natural refuge beaches.
